Supporting Meredith's Fight

Sergeant Meredith Absolon (40) is a 15-year veteran of the Manchester Police Department. She is dedicated to the community and frequently helps those in need out of her own pocket. Along with her numerous work commitments, she remains a dedicated mother to her two children – Brody (7) and Finley (5). Unfortunately, our friend and fellow officer was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. She has begun a challenging year-long process of treatments and surgeries.
To truly capture the essence of Meredith's character, we'd like to share a heartfelt letter penned by her sister, Britt (Lebbing). This letter beautifully articulates why we initiated a GoFundMe page for her, as it provides a poignant perspective on her journey and the reasons behind our endeavor.
"Being an older sibling means that your little brothers and sisters come to rely on you; come to trust you and this is quite special…sometimes you even get to be a hero.
I think back to a time when she was in 5th or 6th grade and had a bad sore throat. It was hurting so badly that she asked me to sleep next to her. She trusted that I would give her comfort and wait for her to fall asleep. I felt like the best big sister, a hero. Now she is the hero to many. In fact, just months after graduating from the Police Academy, she managed to contain a very hostile and violent situation, which led to a well-deserved commendation. That wouldn’t be her last.
Meredith then was promoted, and I watched how her co-workers all were there to support her as she was a sister/friend to many. Then she became a mom, and another kind of hero. I never liked my sister more than when she was pregnant (during which she continued to serve and protect the citizens of Manchester until she was 6 months pregnant), and I have never stopped being proud of the mom she continues to be to Brody and Finley. She has a bottomless heart for dogs and her sense of humor is unmatched. She’s quick with clever jokes and comebacks – a trait that lends itself well to fighting crime and raising her kids …which has their similarities!
Now she’s a hero for a different reason, one she didn’t choose but has faced head-on with dignity, grace, tenacity, and resilience and again continues to show up to work daily whether she is sick or not. As the older sister I wish I could fight this battle for her, and be a hero again to my little sister, but I can’t…so instead I will fight alongside her. I will sit with her at treatments, I will let her cry on my shoulder, and I will raise a toast to my hero, Meredith Absolon when she rings that bell! Kick cancer's ass - you got this!!! "
Meredith has been overwhelmed by the support and asked us to share her message:
"I am extremely grateful for the outpointing of support I've received. Words can't convey how much everyone's kindness means to me. However, it has strengthened my determination to beat this terrible disease. Once more, please accept my heartfelt gratitude for being there during this journey." -Meredith
