My name is Zachary Smith and Merff Co. is a nonprofit organization I started in 2013 to do something positive in my sisters name. My sister, Meredith Smith(Merff) was killed in a car accident in July of 2012 and she is the inspiration behind Merff Co.. After the first year of Merff Co. I decided it would be best to focus on school and come back to Merff Co. later when I would be able to offer more. My main focus is still raising money for high school scholarships, and to raise awareness against the dangers and catastrophes that come from drunk and drugged driving. All money will go towards the next step in the process for Merff Co. as well as the scholarships I hope to be able to offer with enough donations. Along with that, I plan to use the money to move forward with a new venture I am working on.
What I plan to do now is switch gears and really expand what I'm trying to do with Merff Co. I am working on a platform that will make it easier for parents, siblings, or anyone that is going through the grieving process to access someone who has experienced the same loss. Instead of going to a psychologist or psychiatrist where many find it uncomfortable to open up I would like the platform to be user oriented where anyone can go on share their story and even live chat with someone if you are feeling a wave of grief.
Some people don't feel comfortable opening up to someone that hasn't experienced the loss that they have and I am hoping to change that. The process of creating this platform is going to take time and money. I really hope that this GoFundMe will help raise the money I need to work with some of the finest students in my area to create this platform and continue our pursuit of innovative community based outreach programs.
I hope to fulfill my goal by Meredith's 5 year memorial, 26 July 2017. By achieving this goal I will be able to share the success with everyone once the time comes. Remember this is a nonprofit, Merff Co. 501(c) I do not wish to make financial gains. I only hope that I can help those grieving the loss of a loved one and in turn they can help someone else by using our platform.
This project means so much to me because Meredith was our family's shining star. She outshined my sister and I in academics and personality. She was the type of person that could walk in a room and you would feel her presence. I really would like to continue working with RID to end drunk driving and tighten legislation in states which DUI and DWI laws are loose. Meredith was my little sister and I miss her every single day. With the success of this project I hope to keep her spirit alive eternally.
I would be extremely thankful for any type of donations no matter the amount. This project means the world to everyone who knew Meredith. For those of you who do donate I will keep a log and you will be thanked in some way or another when this project is complete.
