Merle Thompson Reece's Funeral & Memorial Service

Merle was a mother who cared for everyone around her before she took care of herself. It was one of her greatest strengths and weaknesses.

 

David, her firstborn son, said it best- that she was like the pelican of the Louisiana state flag, giving her blood for the life of others.

 

She was a person of passion and purpose. She had a relentless drive for God, her community, and her family.

 

As I type this, she is on her last breaths, and I'm working with my siblings to give her friends, family, and community space to mourn her healthily.

 

She lived a life that will be celebrated by many for years to come.

 

The children are leaning forward in this time of grief together to put together a funeral for her.

 

The gofundme is needed. It is no small secret that Merle was not a materialistic woman while also lacking no ambition in her dreams and output. She leaves this life as she said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have, I give you."

 

The family needs help with funds to host a minimalist service for Merle.

 

Each of the siblings are giving what they can to contribute to their funeral and I'm asking for those who would be willing to give as well towards her funeral to do so in celebration and honor of her life.

 

Having a small meager memorial service and funeral where people can gather will be healthy for her community, her friends, and her family. We will process and mourn her loss over the years and give her spiritual and cultural heritage, I want to bring her loved ones together to support her in this last way.

 

As mom breathes her final breaths over the next few days, her family will be here to take your calls, texts, emails, etc over the next few days as we mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
