Hello Merry Oaks Community,
We are seeking your help with a cat colony in the neighborhood to make sure it does not continue to grow.
We, Meredith (on Graybark), Rebecca (on Draper), and Pamela (on Arnold), have been working with a woman who traps and releases feral cats to curb the growth. Getting these cats spayed/neutered and basic shots will not only benefit the cats but also our community.
Good news: thus far, all cats that have been tested for FIV and feline leukemia have tested negative.
Background:
An elderly gentleman in the neighborhood has found himself in a predicament after feeding a feral cat. Approximately 30+ cats are now living around his property; several are pregnant. Several neighbors have mentioned finding mama cats and keeping or fostering kittens. This is where they are coming from.
What we’ve done:
We have trapped and released 6 feral cats. That is, these cats have been spayed/neutered and received shots.
We have applied for a $250 grant through the Animal League to help pay for services. Folks can apply for these at the beginning of every month.
We have made upwards of a total of 15 appointments at Stand for Animals, The Humane Society, and Snipwell.
What we need
(We have an early December deadline to get all of the cats spayed/neutered):
-Donations to help with funding. We estimate the total cost per cat is about $50-$60. So far, we have been covering all costs. We think $2500 will do if we get on it quickly.
-Help with transportation to the spay/neuter appointments. Drop off is usually between 7:30-8am and pick up is usually 3:30-4pm
-Fostering kittens. Currently, there are approximately 15 kittens.
We sincerely appreciate any help we can get. Please contact Meredith- [email redacted].com, if you can help in any way.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Meredith, Pamela, and Rebecca and the Merry Oaks Community Cats
