Mersey Maritime’s £20,000 for 20 years appeal
Mersey Maritime is supporting the Hive Youth Zone as their chosen charity this year to help raise £20,000.
With the support of our incredible maritime family, in this our 20th anniversary year, our aim is to collectively raise more than £20,000 to support the most vulnerable young people in our coastal community.
More about the Hive
Coastal communities have some of the most deprived areas in the UK, with high unemployment and poverty, and incredibly low social mobility. The Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead is a state-of-the-art purpose-built centre for young people within our area, where 1 in 3 children live in poverty.
The Hive exists to help young people feel happy, healthy and to thrive within their community. Always putting young people first, they combine high quality youth work with inspiring activities in an inclusive, safe space. The Hive provides the opportunities, knowledge and confidence to make positive choices, raising aspirations for individuals and their communities.
With the cost-of-living crisis impacting families disproportionately, the Hive has never been needed more, offering young people somewhere warm and safe to go, something to do and someone to talk to, providing hot meals, food hampers for families, school coats, blankets, fuel cards and warm clothes.
Your donations could support the following:
• £9.90 Could cover one hour of support to help young people believe in themselves.
• £40 Could fund a fuel card for a family, increasing numbers of The Hive’s families are suffering from fuel poverty, meaning they may have to choose between eating or heating.
• £100 Could give a young person a year to remember by covering their membership, food and entry to The Hive.
• £1000 Could fund one week’s worth of hot food for the young people at The Hive. This might be the only hot meal they get that week.
