METABOLIZER - SHORT INDIE HORROR FUNDRAISER

I’m Owain Collins, and I’m an independent filmmaker.

When I got the privilege to study film at Interlochen Arts Academy my Sophomore year of high school, I swore to myself that every year then on I’d write, direct, and edit a project. The idea was that each film would grow in scale, length, and ambition, and by the time I was a senior in college, I’d have an independent feature in my portfolio.

My Sophomore year I co-directed a music video for a song called Humility. My Junior year I created my thesis film Evocation, a psychological body horror short following the death of a painter with dementia. My Senior year I created my capstone film Best Man, a dark comedy body horror short- doubling in runtime- following the sinister wedding of two identical influencers. I’m now in my Freshman year of college, studying film at Chapman University. I’m beyond excited to announce my next big project, a story I’ve been putting together for years.

METABOLIZER is a 35 minute psychological body horror short film, following isolated teenager Ava as her parasocial relationship with the uncanny sitcom “Happy Family” spirals into a surreal nightmare. Inspired by David Lynch’s 2002 short Rabbits, Metabolizer also takes influences from I Saw The Tv Glow(2024), Videodrome(1983), Eighth Grade(2018), and the photography of Gregory Crewdson. I’ve already attached a producer, Sophia Garcia, and lead actor, Kiera Nusbaum. Both are extremely talented, and we cannot wait to bring this vision to the screen.

For my senior year capstone film Best Man, I tried my luck at crowdfundraising and was thrilled to see all the positive reception and support. While Best Man was an exciting challenge in ambition and execution, Metabolizer is a huge leap forward. Part of the process that’s always thrilled me is conceptualizing logistic, low-budget, and practical methods of execution for these projects. It’s still impossible to achieve these on no budget, so we need your help in making this story come to life!

The money donated will fund the films practical special effects, production design, equipment rentals, location rentals, and keeping the cast/crew fed and hydrated.

If you donate, you will get a special mention in the credits, a link to the finished product, an invite to the premiere, and my eternal gratitude! A script is available for interested donors, you can reach out to me (even if you just have questions).

You can follow the film’s Instagram account, @metabolizerfilm, for updates on the production process. As of now, you can find excerpts of the screenplay and the pitchdeck on the Instagram page so I highly recommend following!
