Check out a video clip from one of the free movement classes offered at metaDEN through the Wyfy School, "Pleasure in the Black Body" led by Nana Chinara.
Why we started metaDEN::
A large part of our vision is making room for creatives of color to realign outside of the usual pressures from society's racial and gender-binary lens. The feedback we've from our community since starting our business reflects a need for intentional space. Considering the inequities and violence that the qtpoc (queer and trans people of color) community endures, spanning from police brutality to job discrimination, healing spaces should not be laborious. The environments of most therapeutic spaces we navigate, are not catered to our experience. So we aim to be a space where folks are able to comfortably network, share their practices, or engage in discussions with community.
Why we need your support::
The DEN is currently operated by it's two co-founders and a small group of amazing volunteers. Due to current NYS mandates to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, our physical location has been closed since mid-March causing us to lose all of our revenue for the rest of March, April, and potentially May. With no clear idea of when this temporary closure will end, it is extremely difficult to sustain and adhere to our financial obligations including rent. Space rentals at the physical location of metaDEN is the primary source of income for the co-founders who maintain this community effort without institutional support of fiscal sponsors. Your contributions will make it possible for us to survive this pandemic and help us reopen our doors open once the mandates are lifted and it is safe for folx to congregate. These funds will also help provide resources for the people who steward the space and pay ongoing business expenses. #SmallBusinessRelief
