Thank you so much SBMA community for your continued donations to this ongoing fundraiser! Our friends at Good Lutheran always appreciate any and all Metros we can donate. The preferred format for Metros is weekly unlimited cards, so the suggested donation for this project is $34 as the prices have just gone up. Thank you!

Hey SBMA,
The fundraiser for MetroCards continues! We just funded 50+ MetroCards for our friends at Envision Freedom Fund and we continuously fund weekly unlimited cards for the community at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Our friends at the church tell us that MetroCards are one of the most high-need items for asylum seekers in Brooklyn. Thank you for your contributions!
Best,
Emily

Hello SBMA Community!

Hello, South Brooklyn Mutual Aid Community and beyond!
We've mobilized this crowdfunding page in the past to connect our neighbors to mass transit access. Now we're using it again to organize that access for asylum seekers currently arriving in Brooklyn from Texas.
Thousands of asylum seekers who crossed the border into Texas are being dropped off in NYC without a safety net, so we're building that net as we go. Mutual aid groups, church groups, and community organizers throughout the city are collecting essential items and organizing housing, job, and food efforts for asylum seekers.
Donations to this fund will be used directly to purchase MTA cards for asylum seekers.
For other ways to get involved, SBMA needs volunteers thru 9/10 at the Good Shepherd Church in Bay Ridge (7420 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11209). Families are coming to this space daily and volunteers should be prepared to join a warm, welcoming, inclusive community space that prioritizes the needs of our newly arrived neighbors. You can find out more about how to get involved by filling out this survey.
Are you a salaried employee with mass transit benefits? Another way to contribute is by donating extra funds you don't foresee using this year. You can sign up to donate transit benefits through South Brooklyn Mutual Aid here.
Your support is needed and appreciated. Let's help our community get where they need to go safely!
