Homer's Heros

For quite a while now, the name “Homer’s Hero’s” was reserved for the many talented individuals that raced on Homer Croom’s BMX team for his bike shop Coastal Bike Supply, but today we need you to consider taking that title over. Homer has received a terminal cancer diagnosis, and he could use your support.
For 40 years, Homer has dedicated his life to the sport of BMX, the BMX community, and to all the kids (young and old) who needed a last-minute adjustment on their bike and a few words of encouragement to make it off the starting gate or get back up after taking a fall. He often helped kids travel, made sure they got to practice, helped dial in their bikes, and provided them with words of wisdom (even when they might not have been wanted).
Homer founded Coastal Bike Supply because he couldn’t find the right size bike for his son Trip in the local shops, and he knew other kids likely had the same problem. What started as a mail-order-only bike shop through a partnership with a bike shop in downtown Raleigh grew into a dedicated BMX shop with a racing team that won multiple national titles.
BMX life means a lot of time at the track, and when you aren’t at the track, you’re on the road getting to as many races as possible in an effort to rack up those points. The story was no different for Homer and his wife, Freeda. Every weekend meant packing up the shop trailer and heading out to a race to cheer on the kids and ensure everyone had the parts and gear they needed to be race-ready. Homer’s dedication to the sport, the community, and his team knew no bounds. He truly did all of this for the love of the sport and the love of his BMX family.
All this time away from home meant that several things got put off and postponed at home. Recent events related to Covid-19, and his health not allowing him to go to the track, led to a decline in business for Homer’s shop. Due to all of this, Homer could not make needed home repairs. A cancer diagnosis and radiation treatments on top of this slowed down his income even more and began racking up new bills, which was when we realized that we needed to reach out to the community.
As Homer’s health is rapidly declining, we are asking for your support in making much-needed home repairs, making Homer comfortable in the time he has left, and planning his final expenses.
Homer Croom has been a personal hero to so many of us; let’s show him all the support and love we can.
