ABSTRACT:

From the cosmos comes a visitor, Lilly, who claims to be a psychonaut capable of traversing alternate dimensions through shifts in consciousness, along with a runaway pet dog and a deceased mother. Disparate elements intertwine through the mystery of an unknown life form called the Monster Magnet.

The protagonist, Lilly Mukaejima, loses her mother to self-immolation at the age of 12. Her only emotional support, the pet dog Esperanza (ESP), flees, and her father remains missing for a long time. Spending lonely hours at home, Lilly constructs a dollhouse resembling her family, reads books about alien abductions, and lives in a world of dreams and eccentricities. Burning the doll's clothes becomes a ritual for Lilly to confront her mother's death trauma. Lilly's consciousness often slips into alternate realms, where a dog-like apparition frightens her and provides solace in her loneliness.

However, loneliness gradually turns into despair, and on her 14th birthday night, Lilly feels compelled to burn herself out. Yet, at that moment, her imagination leaps to a new level. She encounters the presence of the Teacher inside the abducted UFO, and Lilly comes to understand the mystery of her mother's death. Upon returning to Earth, Lilly realizes that her trauma has been transformed into a new life.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE:

As a viewer of films, I often find myself unexpectedly moved by some, while others seem to adhere strictly to conventional storytelling formulas. With this film, we aim to utilize the medium of cinema—comprising visuals, music, and sound—to evoke a perceptual response from the audience. We want cinema to serve as a canvas for viewers to project their memories, emotions, thoughts, and stories.

Rather than imposing a predetermined narrative and emotional journey from the production side, we aim to invite viewers to explore their innermost thoughts and feelings while watching the film. We hope to encourage an introspective journey where each individual can interpret the story uniquely. This film represents our exploration of how the expression of perception can achieve this profound intersubjective connection with the audience.

The story follows a girl burdened by a traumatic past as she navigates the realms of everyday life and the extraordinary. Through cinematic vision, we depict her journey from death, despair, and self-negation to a profound sense of rebirth.

This work also experiments with blending live-action with stop-motion animation, creating a hybrid form that adds layers of depth to the storytelling. The synergy of soliloquies, vivid visual imagery, and a psychological soundtrack aim to transport viewers into a meditative world of contemplation.

We hope to guide the audience on an unknown journey and foster a new understanding of the world through subtle yet impactful steps.

あらすじ

　宇宙からの来訪者、意識の変化で異次元を移動できる精神飛行士を名乗るリリー、ずっと家出中の飼い犬、そして命を絶った母親。ばらばらのエレメントがモンスターマグネットと呼ばれる未知の生命体の謎を通して結ばれていく。

　主人公のリリー・ムカエジマは、12歳の時に母親を焼身自殺で失う。唯一の心の支えだった飼い犬エスペランザ（ESP）は逃走、父親もかなり昔に行方不明のままだ。家で孤独な時間を過ごすリリーは家族を模したドールハウスを作り、エイリアンに誘拐される本を読み、夢想と奇行の日々を送っていた。人形の服を燃やすことは、リリーが母親の死のトラウマに向き合う儀式でもあった。リリーの意識は往々にして異空間に入り込む。そこではリリーにつきまとう犬の妖怪が彼女を怖がらせたり、孤独を和らげる存在になったりする。

　しかし孤独は次第に絶望へと変わり、14歳の誕生日の夜、リリーは自らも燃えて無くなる衝動に駆られる。だがその時、彼女のイマジネーションは新たなレベルに飛躍する。拉致されたUFOの中で出会う、ティーチャーの存在。そしてリリーは母の死の謎も理解する。地球帰還するリリーは自らのトラウマが新たな生命へと転換されたことに気づく。

制作意図

映画を見ていると予期せず自分の心が揺さぶられるものと、ドラマツルギーのフォーミュラに沿った物語の消費を促すものがあると感じます。

この映画では、映像、音楽、音響から成り立つ映画というメディアが観る人の心理面を刺激し、個々の観客がそれぞれの記憶、感情、思い、そして物語を紡ぎ出す媒体となることを目指しています。

制作側の意図した物語と感情を与えるのではなく、観客が映画を見ている間、自分の深層心理に降りて行って心の中を探索し、自分なりの物語を受取るものとなるために、どのような表現が可能なのか、この映画はそれを探求したひとつの結果です。

物語は、トラウマ的な過去を背負った一人の少女が日常と非日常の領域を行き来し、死、絶望、自己否定から再生にいたる過程を映画的なビジョンによって描いています。

この作品は、ライブアクションとストップモーションアニメーションを融合させた実験映画にもなっています。また、独白と鮮やかな映像イメージ、心理的サウンドトラックの相乗効果は見る者に瞑想的な世界を提供します。

観客を未知の旅に導き、世界を新たに認識する小さなステップになればと考えています。
