Shawn's road to recovery

Shawn a North Lakes local, loving husband, father to 4 kids Jagger, Jordi, Ella and Jackson, ex serving veteran that has served in Afghanistan and a strong community supporter….

On Sunday 18th June Shawn, usually fit, active and healthy, woke extremely sick and deteriorated very quickly. Kat monitored him and was not happy with Shawn's vital signs and called an ambulance.

Unfortunately Shawn has contracted Necrotising Fasciitis, which is an aggressive and very serious bacterial flesh eating infection - cases are rare with an incidence of 1 per 100,000. Further to contracting Necrotising Fasciitis, Shawn had a heart attack at home without either him or Kat being aware of and he had a blood clot in his artery (this has now been cleared out).

The infection started on Shawn's neck from an ingrown hair and from picking it, bacteria has entered into his body and this has released toxins into his bloodstream causing Shawn to become extremely sick within a matter of hours.

Shawn was rushed to the RBWH where he was placed in to ICU and sedated immediately.

Since Sunday Shawn has now had 3 surgeries to debride the infection and remove whatever they found, there was an extreme amount of dead tissue. Shawn has had his skin removed from his collarbone to his neck, under the jaw, to the opposite collarbone and to his chest plate, this also included a bit of muscle from his neck.

Shawn is a caring, friendly, selfless, gentle giant that would do absolutely anything for his family and friends. Shawn never asks for favours to be returned and never expects anymore than a thankyou when he helps others.

As we know times are tough in the world we are in and with zero income at present this will be extremely stressful and tough for Kat and her family.The bills will pile up quick and adding to the stress that Kat and her family are already enduring.

Any amount of donation whether it be $5 or $50 would be a huge help and relief for Kat and the kids so she can put all of her time, energy and focus into been by her husband’s side at this tough time.
