Relief for Scott Reynolds
Our brother, Scott, suffered a dissecting aneurysm on December 10, while getting his daughter ready for school. A dissecting aneurysm is a serious condition in which a tear occurs in the inner layer of the body's main artery (aorta). Blood rushes through the tear, causing the inner and middle layers of the aorta to split
Within hours, he was life-flighted to a hospital and underwent open-heart surgery. Scott is 41, and undoubtedly his life will never be the same. Scottie has not left the hospital in over a month and recently underwent surgery to have part of his colon removed due to complications from the trauma his body has been through. Prior to this, Scott was teaching financial literacy to high school students, coaching basketball, completing work towards a master’s degree and raising his 7 year old daughter, as a single parent.
Scottie encouraged his students to recognize their “superhero” qualities, we all have them, he’d often say. From his job to his personal life, Scott was the parent that encouraged other parents to “be the parent you wish you’d had.” From his warm smile to his infectious laugh, Scottie was always a joy. Scottie is deeply passionate about his (2) girls and his students, and he is missing the daily camaraderie that was had.
As we enter this new phase, Scott’s mobility has declined and at present, he is unable to walk and will have a long road of therapy; he will need a hospital bed inside of his apartment when he does return home. We want him to be able to continue whatever treatment is necessary in a comfortable setting. There are no mechanisms in place to help with his medical needs, as he was the only breadwinner in his household. We are hoping through the generosity of friends and extended family, we can help out Scott, by ensuring he is able to get the care he needs over the next few weeks and months ahead that are already becoming quite challenging.
As humble as we are, we feel awkward asking for support, but so many wonderful folks have asked how they can help. This is how! Thank you for all of your love, support, prayers, and positive thoughts. We all appreciate it and are deeply grateful for the incredible extended network of friends and family that Scott has!
