Saving Ruger

Meet Ruger, the sweetest boy around. A Springer Doodle who loves to cuddle with Mama and play with all of his fur-siblings.
At only 15 weeks, his little life took a scary turn when he was attacked by something more vicious than you ever imagine your pet encountering. Ruger fought and ran, making it all the way safe inside his house before his strength ran out. Covered in bleeding wounds, his right pelvic leg open to the tibial and fibular, and missing most of his tail. It’s a miracle he made it away and back inside so that his parents could get him the help he needs. His parents, Chelsie and Colten, adore him and will do anything to keep him safe. They have a baby of their own on the way so this was only their first sleepless night of many to come. Ruger was rushed to Mission Vet Emergency in Kansas where they were able to stabilize and sedate him. His poor body was so swollen and tired but he hung on during the long drive and, as always, was such a good boy.
We all know how expensive vet bills can be - though there’s no question in Chelsie and Colten’s minds that their love and responsibility to their pet comes before the cost. With this being so unexpected and costly, I’m asking anyone who can donate to or share Ruger’s story to consider helping us to Save Ruger! His emergency visit started with a $2,300 payment but his leg and tail require surgery that will bring his vet bills up to $8,000 in total. Unfortunately, his tail will have to be completely amputated but Ruger still has so much life left in him.
Thank you for reading Ruger’s story. He and his parents appreciate your prayers, consideration and any donation.
UPDATE/
Goal has been lowered to reflect change in surgery costs due to necessary amputation of Ruger’s hind leg. He still has recovery in front of him but we are hopeful that the bulk of his pain and issues are behind us. Keep sharing his story, we can’t thank you enough!
