Hysterectomy gone wrong
Donation protected
My mom recently had a hysterectomy after she found out she had a mass in her uterus. She went into her surgery thinking that she would have a few weeks of recovery and be able to get back to her busy life, considering that her surgery was minimally invasive and laparoscopic. After her hysterectomy, she woke up in intense pain that never seemed to go away. Even with her oxygen levels severely low, her doctors sent her home to start healing. Three days of excruciating pain led her to check in to a local ER. After suspicions of fluid leaking in her abdomen, they rushed her to the ER of the hospital she had her hysterectomy at. Hours of painful tests and attempts to drain the fluid led the doctors to find out there was a hole in her bladder that the surgeon nicked during her hysterectomy. She then had to go back into surgery where they cut her abdomen open to repair the hole in her bladder and clear out all the yearn that had been leaking in her body for days. She immediately felt relief after the repair and had hopes of finally being able to start healing. After a few days recovering in the hospital, the incision on her abdomen started to leak. With concerns of the leakage being feces, she was rushed back into surgery to ensure she did not get sepsis. We discovered once the surgeon called us that during the repair of the hole in her bladder, the surgeons also nicked her bowel, and the bowel repair did not hold up. They stopped the surgery because they could not find the cause of the leak, and they left her incision open, but sealed up, as she was sedated in the ICU for 24 hours. They went back in the next day, found the cause of the leakage and repaired the hole in the bowel, but had to leave her with a colostomy bag so that her bowel could heal before being functional again. Now, with a vertical abdominal incision and a horizontal one on top of the initial hysterectomy, my mom is beat up and very defeated. With very little trust in her medical team, she is scared for her life. To make it even worse, when she was intubated for her last surgery, they knocked out her front tooth. Most recently, her doctors discovered a new hole in her bladder, but were unable to go back in to fix it because of how fragile her health is right now. Until that is an option, she has a colostomy bag, and multiple tubes in her back to drain her bladder. Due to her state, she will remain in the hospital until she is able to get stronger for another repair. She is a mother of 4, who works full time, and her family is beyond worried for her. Any donation would help with the extensive medical bills and allow her to keep providing for her family. Thank you.
