Almost Home Canine Rescue

Almost Home Canine Rescue is a non-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization operating out of Calgary, AB. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs, surrendered dogs and those in danger of abuse or neglect. We will never turn down a dog due to medical issues which is an extremely costly commitment. We are not yet fortunate enough to have in house vetting at our facility which would drastically reduce our medical costs however, we do work with a couple of great local vet clinics. We also provide a spay/neuter and return program to struggling communities to help control the dog population. This program allows low income residents in communities which we work with, to have their dogs spayed or neutered at no cost to them. We cover 100% of the cost of surgery as well as deworming and vaccination costs for the dogs while in our care. Once the dog has recovered from surgery, it is returned to its owners. Again, an extremely costly commitment yet, a necessary service for us to provide.

Almost Home Canine Rescue places dogs in loving, responsible, and committed permanent homes. We take considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs associated with bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

We are a licensed business and are in the process of applying for non-profit or charity status. Being a licenced business absolutely does not mean that we are making a profit. In fact, due to the cost of medical intakes that we have brought in, we are struggling to continue what we are committed to do. We are currently at capacity and our vet bill is through the roof currently sitting at $24'292.13. Our rescue relies on the adoptions of our dogs and the generosity of our donors. We are pleading for the help of our supporters so that we can continue to help the dogs that have been turned away else where, the dogs that are in desperate need of medical care and the dogs that have been forgotten.

Caesar...

Caesar was brought in with a collar deeply embedded in his neck.

Caesar is now living his best life in a loving home.

The frozen pups...

These pups were living under a staircase in close to -50* temperatures. They were literally frozen stiff.

They had severe hypothermia. Once they started thawing, they were damp and stunk like nothing ever smelled before. One pup passed away on the drive home due to hypothermia.

The surviving pups made a full recovery and are living happy, healthy lives.

Togo...

Togo came in with a severely deformed leg due to an old break and had to have his leg amputated.

He is now living his best life.

Elvis...

Elvis came in with SEVERE mange. His whole back end was a giant pussy infected mess.

It took months of medical care and recovery to get him ready for his forever home.

Elvis now has an amazing life to live out his senior years.

Leta...

Leta came in with a pelvis break. After months of recovery, she has now found a loving home.

Percy...

Percy is our most recent medical intake. He came in with gashes on his back and bottom and is now recovering until he is ready to find his family.
