Daisys Cancer Fund

Hello. My name is Vanessa and I am fundraising for my daughter Daisy Sunshine. May 23rd was the day our lives changed forever. She started having pain in her legs a few months ago. She is in a dance Troup and an amazing dancer so we thought maybe she pulled a muscle but it got worse over the months. We took her in and they did some X- Ray's and found she had a tumor in her left leg. The told us it was non cancerous and she would need a surgery to fix it. They sent us to another doctor and we just kept getting the run around. Finally we got a call from the Children's Hospital and they said they needed to see us ASAP and scheduled us an appointment for the next day, May 23rd 2023. We went in happy not even realizing we were on the cancer floor. They did a few more x-rays and the doctor said she was going to be very honest with us and that it looked like a very vicious cancer. She scheduled us next day to do a biopsy. When the surgery was done she confirmed to us she did in fact have cancer. She did more scans while we were there. We found out she has Osteosarcoma, which is bone cancer. It has spread to both her legs, some of her hip and very bottom of her spine. If everything goes right they expect it to be a 9 month treatment plan but since its in multiple areas it can be a bit more complicated. Her bone is very fragile so she can not put pressure on her left leg. She had her first chemo treatment June 7th. Every single time she gets chemo or gets a fever or illness we have about a 3 day to 2 week hospital stay. Since then we have had a lot of unexpected expenses.
My husband has had to miss a lot of work to be there for the important days of treatments and surgeries. They have a program at the hospital to help with family pay but since his job does not have at least 50 employees he does not qualify. His boss has been very helpful and understanding and letting him use next years PTO but that will eventually run out. He has been working even less hours to help out at the hospital because I usually have my 2 year old with me. I was going to start looking for work before all this started and now I can not commit to a job because I am always in the hospital with her. The hospital provides her with breakfast, lunch and dinner but since I am always there with her and usually have my 2 year old, I need to feed myself and him as well and sometimes when my husband and my 9 year old are there, we all have to eat. She hates the hospital food so I also have to feed her. There are days when the chemo makes her sick and she won't eat and I have to get her anything she's craving. Lots of door dash.
I am going to have to invest in hats and wigs and scarfs and stuff she needs/wants. The hospital has been AMAZING by giving her music lessons and activities to do. We are going to need a good vacuum because we need to keep our house up. We're going to have to buy air purifiers for her room and downstairs. We're going to have to buy really good masks for all of us when we leave the house because her getting sick could be another hospital stay in between chemo. This is just an example of a few of the many expenses that have come up.
They have not mentioned hospital bills so I think we got lucky on that one. They got us some kind of insurance which I believe covers everything.
There are just so many expenses that keep coming up, one after another and we still have living expenses on top of everything. It's all been a lot to handle financially and emotionally. Anything can help, No donation is too small.
Thank you so much for reading this and helping!
