Changing Lives One Pedicure at a Time
Mia Bella, a small beauty salon in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, has proudly teamed up with the not-for-profit organization HairAid, to support and teach impoverished individuals life-changing beauty therapy skills to create safer employment and better livelihoods.
The Hair Aid initiative offers a life-changing opportunity for street families, people living in slum areas and other vulnerable low-income individuals to learn a livelihood skill that can be used immediately after the five-day training program to earn money.
Up until now Hair Aid has run many programs in varying locations throughout Australia and the Philippines teaching sewing & hair dressing skills. Due to the program’s success, this year in September
they are expanding to Bali in Indonesia, and for the first time ever, beauty therapy skills are being introduced to the training programs!
The Mia Bella therapists are very proud to be the first ever beauty salon to be associated with Hair Aid. “We will be working with the poorest of families so they can learn livelihood skills and earn money, buy food, water & provide shelter themselves and their children. We are so humbled to be able to share our skill set to those who need it most and we love the chance to give back to the community” – Kerry, Owner of Mia Bella.
The mission of Hair Aid is to alleviate unemployment for vulnerable community members by giving homeless and economically disadvantaged individuals a hand-up. Hair Aid sends qualified hairdressers to facilitate a five-day haircutting program, up to six times a year. Through a network of agencies Hair Aid provides opportunities for self-sufficiency of the participants after training. Hair Aid’s services include a five-day training program, post project support and communication and hair cutting & beauty resources such as scissors, combs, capes and other general tools required for the sk
ill set taught.
The Mia Bella team are currently fundraising to provide flights, accommodation, food and water, skills and equipment for those receiving the training. All donations will help fund the trip and support those who are in desperate need for a life changing opportunity.
Help Mia Bella raise as much money as possible so they can help these well-deserved women and their families to change their lives one pedicure at a time. You can donate in the salon or online thr
ough their Go Fund Me page which can be found on Mia Bella's Facebook page.
