Mia Séroc is a freelance choreographer, born in Reunion Island,France and established in NYC since 2014.

After her training at Rick Odums School in Paris, Mia moved to NYC to study at the Martha Graham School. She started the professional training program and had the chance to perform with Graham 2 at New York City Center alongside with the Martha Graham Company for the 90th anniversary of the main company. After that, Mia received a full scholarship -“the New York Community Trust’s Edward and Sally Van Lier Arts Fellowship »- to attend the Accelerated program with a special focus on Composition. Séroc was selected based on her artistic achievements during the previous program as well as her tremendous potential as a developing choreographer.

This explosive year also allowed Mia to be an assistant rehearsal director for the Teens program of the Graham school for the piece Panorama that got staged at the New York City Center.

Since then, Mia created several pieces throughout the years using storytelling as a conductor for a strong interpretation of her dancers. Her ultimate goal and mission are always to deliver a narrative in which the audience members will find themselves and be able to ease their journey as human beings.

In fact, as a choreographer, Mia is true to life and is fond of showing the authentic truth that lies in people, the raw meat of the story that is there and will not go away unless you express it and accept it. She is always looking to uplift her audience, and inspire the people that watch her art to bring that sense of community that she is proud of. Mia wants to bring people together.

As of today, Mia decided to open her own Dance Company and is proud to present to you the first project that will lead to the opening of Séroc Dance Ensemble!

Her style is a subtle balance between contemporary and Hip Hop Flow mixed with influences of Reunion Island and African rhythms.

This strong mix is visceral and undoubtedly true to life experiences.

Project description:

This new full-length evening creation is very special to Mia as she will be working with Reunion Island native musicians Natie, Alexsand Saya and Nirina! Mia wanted to share the culture and the sounds of her Island with the public. Throughout the whole project, Mia is eager to immerse you in her roots and to show you how they evolved to create that beautiful mixed human that she is now.

A journey through life, with ups and down that makes you, you. An intricate adventure to find peace and love within yourself!

The goal is to create a unique show that talks to people in every and each place it will be performed. Mia Seroc will start with a stage in NYC, then apply to multiple festivals, to then make her creation travel around the world, and of course, make it perform all the way to Reunion Island. This evening-length show is the start of a lifelong experience that will bring more and more creations and inspirations!

Budget and action needed:

Mia believes in equity and makes a point to respect her crew’s work. Her will for the community is strong and therefore wants to create a safe space where her dancers can evolve and receive fair income.

That’s why she needs you! The whole crew needs you! Through this fundraiser, you will help collect money to pay dancers, lighting designers, musicians, theater to perform, studio space to rehearse and even costumes! Native de la Réunion, Mia Séroc est une chorégraphe professionnelle basée à NYC depuis 2013.

Après avoir suivi une formation chez Rick Odums à Paris, Mia est partie à New York pour étudier à l’école Martha Graham. La première année, Mia a fait partie du “Professional Training Program” et a eu la chance de danser au New York City Center, avec l’ensemble Graham II, aux côtés de la Compagnie Principale Martha Graham à l’occasion du Gala célébrant le 90eme Anniversaire de la Compagnie. Mia reçut une bourse - “The New York Community Trust’s Edward and Sally Van Lier Arts Fellowship" - afin d'intégrer le “Accelerated Program” avec une majeure en Chorégraphie. Séroc fut sélectionnée grâce aux talents artistiques qu’elle a pu montrer dans le « professional Training Program » mais également grâce à son indéniable potentiel en tant que chorégraphe en devenir.

Mia a eu également la chance de monter la pièce Panorama au New York City Center en tant qu'assistante répétitrice du programme Teens@Graham de l’école Martha Graham.

Depuis l’obtention de son diplôme chorégraphique, Mia a créé de nombreuses pièces qui racontent toutes, une histoire, fil conducteur qui permet de donner de la force à l'interprétation de ses danseurs. A chaque fois, son but principal et sa mission sont de créer une histoire dans laquelle son public peut se reconnaître, être inspiré et aidé dans son cheminement quotidien. En effet, en tant que chorégraphe, Mia Séroc est authentique et fidèle à son ressenti de la vie : elle aime montrer au public la vérité qui sommeille en lui, le cœur de leur histoire qui restera à jamais enfoui en lui-même s’il n'apprenne pas à exprimer et à accepter leurs émotions. Mia a à cœur d’inspirer son public et de l’encourager à créer ce sens d’appartenance à une communauté qu’elle retranscrit dans ses créations.

C’est pourquoi Mia a décidé de créer sa propre compagnie et est fière de vous présenter aujourd’hui son premier grand projet, précurseur de l’ouverture du Mia Séroc Danse Ensemble !

Son style chorégraphique est un équilibre subtil entre Contemporain et Hip Hop grooves auxquels se mêlent des accents de l'Île de la Réunion et des rythmes africains. Ce mélange intense est viscéral et profondément authentique, il reflète le vécu.

Description du projet :

Cette création chorégraphique d’une heure a une place particulière dans le cœur de Mia. En plus d’être le lancement de sa propre compagnie, il s’agit avant tout d’une collaboration avec des musiciens réunionnais, Natie, Aleksand SAYA et Nirina ! Mia tenait à partager la culture et la musique de son île natale avec son public. Tout au long de son projet, Mia vous proposera une immersion au sein de ses racines afin de vous montrer comment elle les a intégrées aux nombreuses autres cultures qu’elle a côtoyées pour en faire un joli métissage. Un chemin de vie, avec des hauts et des bas qui vous font devenir la personne que vous êtes aujourd’hui. Une aventure qui vous permet de trouver la paix et l’amour au cœur de vous-même.

“Voyager aux quatre coins du monde m’a permis d’arriver à cet exact moment où je peux refermer la boucle et travailler avec des artistes venant de ma terre natale” dit Mia Seroc.

Le but est de créer un spectacle unique qui parle aux gens, peu importe le lieu où il sera joué. Le spectacle sera d’abord produit à NYC bien évidemment mais Mia veut ensuite le présenter à de nombreux festivals pour le faire tourner dans le monde entier et bien sûr le produire à la Réunion, son île natale. Cette création chorégraphique est le début d’une expérience de vie qui va mener à de plus en plus de créations et d’inspirations !
