Support our Miami Healthcare Heroes
Donation protected
Healthcare professionals across the country are faced with a new reality: emergency rooms overflowing with suffering patients, long hours with no end in sight, and an ever-dwindling supply of protective equipment for themselves and their families. Due to the global shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), many doctors and nurses are issued just a single protective mask per week--forced to wear the same mask for hours at a time, not able to take a break to eat or even breathe freely. They face an oncoming crisis of too many sick patients and not enough providers, beds, ventilators, or even basic supplies. This is the reality of a 'typical' shift for medical staff in our own hospitals now. We can't change it, but we can do a lot to help.
Miami Med COVID Help is run by medical student volunteers to support healthcare workers at Miami area hospitals: Jackson Memorial Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, University of Miami Hospital, and Holtz Children’s Hospital. With your help, we'd like to expand our outreach to include New York, New Jersey, Washington, California, Detroit, and Boston--the largest hotspots for COVID-19.
We are asking you to make a tax-deductible donation to ease the burden of this viral pandemic on our healthcare heroes. We are providing support and manufacturing PPE for our doctors, nurses, and hospital staff so they can continue saving lives.
Where will your money go?
PPE Manufacturing and Distribution
- MMCH has begun manufacturing 1000s of face shields per week to donate, with approval from Infection Control + upper management at Jackson Memorial Hospital (Jackson Health System) and the University of Miami Health System (UHealth). Two local factories donated their 3D-printing material and assembly line workers and machines. Coca Cola donated one ton of medical-grade transparent film. Our MMCH volunteers are donating their time to disinfect, assemble, & distribute the shields with our sterile production protocol. We’ve provided face shield disinfection instructions for continued use in hospitals.
Your donation will buy more 3D-printing material (PETG and BLA filament) for us to use on other 3D printers outside of these factories and for us to ship some shields to hospitals in New York, New Jersey, California, Washington, Detroit, Boston, etc.
(IF YOUR FACILITY NEEDS FACE SHIELDS, please fill out the PPE request form on our website and we will send some over as soon as we can. http://www.MiamiMedCOVIDhelp.com)
Feed our Healthcare Teams
- For busy healthcare workers, finding the time to eat, let alone eating well, is a daily challenge. Help us keep them healthy and fed.
~ $10 will provide one HCW an individually-packed, healthy lunch or dinner
~ $750 will feed the entire Emergency Department of ~75 people on a shift
Morale-Boosting Care Packages
- Given their heroic efforts, we want to show our appreciation for our healthcare workers and brighten their days.
- Help us buy coffee (a frequently requested item from doctors!), snacks, pens, and candy to keep their spirits up.
Every dollar donated will help address the needs of our healthcare workers on the frontlines. Please help us help them.
