Micah- Gender Affirming Surgery

Hi, I am Kelly, wife of Micah. Micah is a transgender male and my loving partner. Micah began their journey as a transgender male in 2019. They are now planning to get top surgery ( the removal of thier breasts) this August. This will help them to feel comfortable and true in their body. Having this surgery will also help with both their mental and physical health.

Imagine feeling uncomfortable in your own body, distressed in your own skin. So much so that you feel anxious to go out in public, or depressed because you have a negative self image. Now imagine managing all the above along with general anxiety and the sensory issues of being autistic. That’s a lot of discomfort! This discomfort could be eased with gender affirming surgery. However, the step to achieving a better wellbeing and claiming their true body comes with a price.

Micah will need to take at least two weeks off of work for the surgery and recovery time. Since, they just began their job, they will not have enough PTO to cover the entire requested time off. Then, there is the insurance factor. We are fortunate enough to have a plan that will cover the majority of the surgery. However, we will need to pay our out of pocket max prior to the surgery being completed. Lastly, as Micah’s caregiver, there are some items I will need to purchase for them to assist in their post surgery recovery.

Surgery will be scheduled for August 2023. Our goal is to reach 3,000 to assist with the lost of income from their job, cover out of pocket insurance cost ($2,000) and cost of post surgery recovery items. (Some of the items needed: wedge pillow $30, mastectomy pillow $25, back rest pillow $25, drain pouches $15, portable travel bidet $13, bath wipes $12, fiber supplement $20).
