Micah's Education Fund

Micah has three major learning disabilities. He is dyslexic, has an audio processing disorder as well as a working memory disorder.

We knew that we needed special tutoring for Micah, but living on a small missionary stipend in Thailand made this seem like an impossibility.

Determined to help our son, Lynette began to search the internet for a dyslexic specialist.

Last June, God lead us to Marci.

At our initial meeting, we connected with Marci right away. She donated an hour of her time and gave us the necessary contacts and information we needed to develop the right plan for Micah.

Because of Marci’s experience and excellent qualifications, she was in high demand and didn’t have any openings to tutor Micah.

She referred us to Becca, one of her colleagues. We were disappointed, but secretly relieved. Becca only charged $45.00 per hour instead of $65.00.

Stress was mounting, and our lives felt chaotic trying to balance ministry needs with family needs.

We prayed for God to please make it obvious what we should do.

A friend started a “GoFundMe” page for Micah that generated enough funds to pay for an official diagnosis from a psychologist in Davis, CA. She helped us better understand of all Micah’s learning disabilities.

After some testing it was discovered that Micah needed intensive 1 hour tutoring 4 days per week for 18-24 months.

A few weeks later we decided to go forward with the tutoring.

Something was not feeling right about hiring Becca. Lynette just didn’t have peace.

One day she decided to call Marci and ask her if she had any other referrals. Marci asked what time we needed and Lynette told her about 11:00.

Marci paused and said “I can’t believe you called me today Lynette. I just got an opening for 11:00”. Marci also told us that she would give a discount because we are missionaries, and her hourly rate wouldn’t be more than $55.00.

When we arrived for Micah’s tutoring session Marci told us that her children are all in college this year and since she has a bit more time, she had decided to take on a few more students than usual.

She assured us that it wouldn’t affect the quality of her time with Micah and then proceeded to tell us that after talking it over with her husband, they decided to offer us the discounted rate of $25.00 per hour!

We were stunned, Lynette began to tear up.

Marci said “Now don’t cry Lynette or you’ll make me cry. That’s why I took the extra students”.

God impressed Marci to help Micah, and gave us another confirmation that He cares about the details of our lives.

It’s been one year since Micah started tutoring with Marci. She has been amazing. Even at her inconvenience she scheduled later appointments for herself so that that Micah would not have to start class at midnight in Thailand.

Here is an update in her own words.

Last year several generous people gave enough funds to cover 10 months of tutoring plus specialized testing.

Micah now sees a real possibility of going to college all because of people like you.

Would you consider helping Micah complete his dyslexia tutoring?
