Micah's Fight Against Late Stage Throat Cancer

Donation protected

Hi everyone,
Some of you may not personally know Micah, but those who do, know him as an incredibly creative, talented, kind and loyal guy with a dark sense of humor. I'm reaching out because he is someone who has influenced the lives of so many individuals through his travels and sharing his experiences. He has been a mentor, a teacher, and a friend who will always give all he can to help others. While he does share the occasional meme, he actually started his social media because he wanted to find a way to make a difference in this world, however he could. Judging by the messages that many of you have sent him during this really difficult time, it sounds like he has done just that. His social media is truly a reflection of who he is and the values and standards he embodies. And now, he could really use your help.

For the past several months, Micah has been battling an aggressive late stage throat cancer, including a tumor on his throat and tongue. Treatment has been the most aggressive and difficult course of treatment with weekly rounds of 4 1/2 hours of chemo, followed by 5 sessions a week of immobilized masked radiation EVERY day for eight weeks. He has lost 100 pounds, his beard (rumored to be the source of his power), his voice, and his sense of taste. He hasn’t been able to eat any solid food for 3 months. He has a scorched mouth and neck (Freddy Kruger style, as he likes to say), but he keeps fighting! The doctor even commented that many people have to stop or slow down treatment because of the severity of the radiation on the body.

If you know Micah, you know he would never ask for help. However, this battle has taken a huge toll on him physically, mentally and now financially. He has already spent most of his savings on treatments, which doesn't include living expenses while he's unable to work, and barely scratches the surface of what this will end up costing him. Unfortunately, the insurance company would only cover what they considered “standard treatment,” and Micah has had to pay out of pocket. We are dealing with a broken system when the quality of life is not considered in the course of treatment. Why even pay for insurance when they don't help you when you need it the most?? But that's a discussion for another day.

Many of you have asked how you can help remove some of this financial burden from Micah and his family, so we decided to set up this Go Fund Me page. Please donate if you can so Micah can focus on fighting the most brutal battle he’s seen yet. He’s refuses to quit but needs our help healing and getting back to normal life. Thank you so much to everyone who has sent him encouraging messages; it has done a lot to keep his spirits high while he fights this battle. Any amount, big or small, will go a long way in contributing to the recovery process by alleviating a little bit of the stress that comes with crippling medical bills. If you aren't in a place where you can help financially, please consider reposting this and sharing it with your friends and family. The love and support you have all shown is truly amazing and speaks to the influence Micah has had on each one of you. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this and help out if you can. He couldn't do it without you.
