Michael A. De Leon Funeral Legacy

Michael De Leon was a caring mentor who helped dozens of journalists get started in the industry, a loving son and brother, and a true friend to everyone he met.

Mike battled various health problems for much of his life, and passed away on March 21, 2022 a few weeks after he was diagnosed with leukemia. He was 45. His loss will be felt most by his mother and five siblings, and it became clear that his family extended well beyond that as news of his passing spread across the community of San Antonio Spurs fans that he helped build.

After founding Project Spurs, he used that platform to help other people live out their dreams and turn those dreams into careers. Dozens of people shared their own version of the same story. "Mike gave me my first shot in this business and cared about my development personally and professionally. I don't know where I would be without his support."

This fund is being set up to lay Mike to rest, and to ensure that his legacy of helping young people pursue their dreams lives on. After funeral expenses are covered, all contributions will be used to set up a scholarship fund in his name. We will share more information on his services and the scholarship in the coming days.

All of us will miss Mike's big smile and bigger heart. We his family members deeply appreciate all of your prayers, your help, and especially your stories about this amazing person who inspires all of us to be better. Together, we will carry on his life's work.
