Michael and I Need Help Fixing Our Home-on-Wheels

My partner Michael and I have been living in my car since 2021 when we lost our housing due to the death of our roommate. Through that time, we’ve had our fair share of problems that we’ve been able to solve ourselves without too much trouble. Lately, the problems have been stacking up and finally, they’ve reached a financial breaking point. Our van is no longer drivable, and we are at risk of being totally shelter-less.

This GoFundMe will ideally be used to secure housing, depending on the amount raised. If the amount is lower than the goal, we will use the funds to try and repair our van or replace it with something in budget that we can continue to live out of. If we reach our goal, we will attempt to secure stable housing with a potential roommate close to Michael’s job, so that he can continue to climb his career ladder.

I am not sure of the van’s issue, but I presume it to be some kind of electrical fault. As of this morning, I have lost the ability to use the windshield wipers and have no dashboard instruments. This rendered it undriveable. The engine still turns and it still goes into gear, which gives us hope that it could be fixed - but at a cost unknown to us. I would like to take it to a mechanic in the coming days to get a better understanding of the problem and cost to repair. In the meantime, I’m starting this fundraiser in the hopes of leaning on friends and acquaintances to get us through this unexpected trouble.
