Michael Blair - Sending for Help

In 2015 my identical twin brother Michael Blair - geologist, climber, snowboarder, cyclist- rode his bike across the country, documenting the journey through a geology themed blog titled Adventures in Deep Time. In early 2020, he took his own life in the Mosquito Range in Colorado. Although we have worked extensively to locate him, his body has yet to be recovered.

June 16th, 2025 will be the 10 year anniversary of his epic bike tour- I intend to recreate his journey from Bishop, California to Acadia, Maine and chronicle as well, in my own way. In addition, I am working on a book that will capture his struggles in youth, the redemption of opening the door into the world of outdoor adventure and the amazing, wondrous experiences that lead to, and ultimately the tragedy of his death after living several lifetimes worth of experiences and rebuilding that followed. This is a story of mental illness, substance abuse, being a twin, and also about squeezing every drop out of life and daring to dream big. There are truly great stories here and I can't think of a better way to honor him and find something approaching closure.

This is an audacious goal, and will be next to impossible without help- at about 4 months long, to not put undue stress on my family, I have calculated that I need to raise a minimum of $16,000 to realistically pull this of. Unfortunately I have a great deal more obligations, financial and otherwise, than my brother did at the time of his journey. My wife and teenage daughters cannot suffer for my dream, but having 3 years to plan should allow the time to figure out how to pull this off. I hope to partner with relevant groups / agencies, and would love to use this as a platform for change and positivity and am open to any suggestions or leads. Thank you!

I am a combat arms veteran with more than a decade of climbing, cycling, and skiing experience at high levels. I have run marathons on several continents, including Antarctica. I work as an electrician but I live for adventure- I can and will do this.
