My husband, Michael Burns, went for his annual heart transplant physical on July 26th, 2018. After running some routine tests he was diagnosed with SCLC, aggressive small cell lung cancer, that has metastasized to his lymph nodes and liver.
He was immediately started on an aggressive chemo regimen. Because he had a heart transplant 6 years ago he is an unusual case. A healthy person undergoing chemo treatment for this type of cancer has a life expectancy of 6-12 months. Due to the heart transplant he has to take anti-rejection medicines that lower his bodies ability to fight diseases. He is unable to stay on most of his anti-rejection medicines and undergo chemo at the same time. Because of this his life expectancy could be less than 6-12 months.
Michael started having health complications in 1999. His health continued to decline forcing him to take an early retirement at the age of 56. He underwent a partial lung removal and eventually a heart transplant on March 3, 2012 after spending almost a year in the hospital. We are extremely grateful for the additional 6 years God gave us together, but as you can imagine this has been and will be financially draining for us.
We are asking for help to cover the cost of medical expenses, parking fees, and other needs.
If you would like to donate we would appreciate it from the bottom of our heart.
God bless you.
