Mikey was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after thinking he had pneumonia for a few weeks. He was transferred from Breck to Fargo where he was admitted to the ICU with heart and kidney failure. After starting dialysis and doing a few heart procedures we were told he wouldn’t have made it another day without care; Missy’s insistence he go in gave him a fighting chance.
On Monday we got the heart breaking news that Mikey’s heart is beyond repair. His only hope is a heart transplant. In order to try and get on the list, Mikey needed to be transferred the Twin Cities. So he made the decision to go and Missy entertained the ambulance crew with conversation the whole way down. Mike and Mary Lou and Justin drove down to meet them at Abott Northwestern.
Tuesday his liver started to fail as well so the decision was made to put him in a medically induced coma and put in a breathing tube. They were able to drain more fluid out of his abdomen with a procedure, to try help his liver.
Wednesday the interventions have helped his liver function some. He still has a breathing tube, and there has been slight improvement in his heart function (from EF of 4-5 up to 10). We still don’t have any answers and Mikey is in severe severe heart failure.
We are praying for a miracle.
His family has been by his side the entire time and we really want to keep them there. We would like to help them with the expenses related to his care and for the family to be able to be with him during this critical time.
