This GoFundMe account has been created for my youngest son Michael Gazda
Michael who is 17 years of age suffered a significant knee injury during a Cibola High School basketball game on December 15th 2016 in Brawley California during an away basketball game. Transported by ambulance to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, Michael was prematurely accompanied off the basketball court just before half-time with massive swelling and intense pain in his left knee. Dr. Peare Orthopedic Specialist in Yuma Arizona drained a large amount of blood from inside Michael’s left knee and ordered an MRI. The MRI shows that Michael has a full left ACL tear as well as a left lateral Meniscus tear. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA academically coupled with his impressive basketball skills Michael has been blessed to have several colleges from all over the United States interested in him. This injury is no doubt a huge setback in Michael’s life abruptly ending his 2016-17 Cibola High School basketball season but in no way will this discourage him from following his dream, to play college basketball. Unfortunately the expected cost of the surgery is between $20,000 to $50,000 dollars. The surgery is scheduled for February 8th 2017 at the Orthopedic Clinic Association in Phoenix Arizona with Dr. Thomas Carter as his Surgeon. After insurance, the expected out of pocket medical cost for Michael will be a maximum of $9,000 dollars which includes the ambulance, ER visit, diagnostic test, and surgery. Half of the out of pocket cost is required to be paid before they will begin surgery in February. All money raised will go directly towards Michael's medical expenses. Michael's surgery got moved a head from February 8th to January 25th 2017 due to a recent cancellation.
"UPDATE"
After conferring with our insurance provider, Blue Shield/Blue Cross and after getting all pre certifications the maximum out of pocket expense for Michael's medical bills will be $4,500.
In light of this new information we have lowered Michaels goal amount from $9,000 to $5,000 dollars. GoFundMe automatically takes 8% of all donations directly from the account, hence the $5,000 dollar goal.
