Michael Grunberg - Glioblastoma Brain Cancer
Donation protected
As many of you know, Michael, was diagnosed a year and a half ago with Glioblastoma. Upon receiving this devastating diagnosis, so many of our friends and family rallied around us, lifted us up in prayer, and supported us in ways we hadn’t even anticipated we would need. A GoFundMe was also created then to help with the sudden influx of expenses we were faced with at a time when Michael was suddenly unable to work. We will always be grateful for the support we received from so many.
For the past 1-1/2 years, Michael has undergone several surgeries, hospital stays, and many months of chemotherapy in an effort to stop regrowth of the tumor. Unfortunately, in March, we learned the tumor had returned, this time to a size even larger than before. With this rapid regrowth, Michael’s care needs have increased significantly.
Some of you have asked how you can help. First, please know how much just your offers of support comfort us during this time of so much uncertainty. We are grateful. To share some of what has transpired recently, Michael had to be transported to Oak Hill Hospital a few weeks ago due to extreme swelling on his brain which led to a grand mal seizure. He was transported to the ICU at Shands, where he spent several days, then to a rehabilitation center in Brooksville where they worked to help him regain enough strength to return home.
Michael came home a few days ago, so our most urgent need right now is to have the necessary level of in-home health care his doctors have emphasized he needs. Our current need is essentially for part-time (3 hours per day) in-home care, supplies, equipment, etc. to establish a full home health care setting for Michael so that he can be close to his family. This GoFundMe is being set up for that purpose.
They have recommended Michael have a health care worker in the home for 3 to 4 hours per day to monitor his condition, help administer his medications, ensure he can be moved safely in/out of the bed, and help with his other physical care needs. Insurance covers a portion of the cost, however it will still require us to provide an additional $2,400+ per month to obtain this level and frequency of in-home care. Other supplies that will be needed on an ongoing basis are any/all disposable personal care supplies.
We remain so grateful for the care and concern so many have shown us during this very trying time. Your offers of support provide comfort and peace of mind.
We continue to hold fast in the knowledge that God has not left our side. We are reminded continually of His words, “Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
