Our Nephew Michael John Wills is a 24-year old young man who lives in Summit, NJ. Up until the beginning of May, 2020 he was living a normal life like any other 24-year old. Balancing a new career in real-estate sales, hanging out with friends and spending time with family.
After suffering from a variety of symptoms, Michael John’s doctors advised him to undergo a CT scan which revealed a very rare two-type tumor in his brain. With one of the cell types being Germanoma Cancer. Within days of his diagnosis, he underwent two emergency brain surgery’s, which no doubt saved his life. After the two surgeries, he underwent a procedure to install a permanent VP shunt, which drains excess cerebrospinal fluid from the brain to the abdomen.
The next six months for Michael John and his parents will involve trips into NYC for six rounds of chemo followed by six aggressive rounds of proton radiation…provided there are no setbacks or complications.
For those of you who are reading this and don’t know the Wills family, sadly this is not their first battle with cancer. Michael John’s older sister Emily was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma cancer in October of 2017. Thankfully, after undergoing chemo, radiation and surgery, Emily beat her cancer and is 3 years cancer free. Unfortunately, the considerable medical bills incurred during Emily’s treatments are still being paid off. The addition of Michael John’s medical bills will undoubtably put the Wills family in a financial position that they can’t face alone.
