Michael Juan's fight against rare cancer
My dad, Michael Juan, was just diagnosed with the rare Esophageal Cancer last week. As a daughter, this is incredibly hard to watch, especially knowing there is not much I can do other than emotional and financial support. My dad is someone that has always been loved by everyone around him and has such a capturing personality, he's able to befriend the most random strangers and engage captivating conversation that everyone wants to be a part of. He currently lives up in the mountains of Nor Cal with his spouse, Erica Johnston, and he has 4 children including myself and three brothers: Alex, Patrick and Casey. I have to say it truly breaks my heart to see this happening to him at the young age of 54.
He has been sick since December and as we are within the first week of February, he has lost just about 70 lbs since Christmas. He is unable to eat any full meals, and when he snacks, it comes right back up. He's unable to keep liquids or any solid food down, so just yesterday, they surgically attached a food port to his body so he can start being tube fed until he is able to eat properly without his body having such terrible reactions.
As he lives in Northern California, he is a week and a half into this diagnosis and is still struggling to get the necessary testing done that he needs in order to be moved along the process with adequate timing, simply due to his location (up within the Redwood Forest). He will be driving to Redding, CA which is 4 hours away from his home just to get the PET scan so they can accurately depict his stage. I am asking for donations to simply help with Michael's care and cost of living while he will be out of work. I absolutely would not want him or anyone to ever have to decline treatment due to a financial burden.
Following his appointments next week, he will find out the staging and the recommended process for fighting this awful disease. I understand that not everyone is able to provide financial donations, which is OKAY. If I can just ask that everyone who is able, to please add my dad into your prayers and ask for strength during this battle and healing to his body and soul. I know this is incredibly scary for him, regardless of what doctors say, because his sister passed from her fight with cancer nearly 15 years ago.
Thank you for your time reading this and THANK YOU for any donations you're able to spare and for the prayers sent up. This will be one hell of a fight but I'm sure my dad can do it.
Thank you,
Jessica Juan
