Michael Keough’s Accident
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Maddy. Im 16 years old and a junior in high school. My dad is Michael Keough and he was in an extremely tragic and traumatic car accident on Wednesday October 23rd 2024. My mom and dad were taking a car up to my sister Abbey who is a sophomore at West Chester University. They were going to have dinner at the restaurant she works at so they were in separate cars on the way there with the plan to return home in the same car. The car my dad was driving was struck from behind going full speed on a highway. Upon impact he suffered a severe spinal cord injury and multiple fractures in T7 and T8. My mom witnessed the accident and was on the scene the entire time as he was pinned in the car and had to be cut out. He was rushed to the nearest hospital where they performed a cat scan immediately and it was determined that he needed a 6 hour emergency surgery. He was air lifted by helicopter to a world renowned hospital for spinal injuries. He went into an MRI and then at about 8 am on October 24th they began the surgery. Thankfully the surgery was very successful and his spine is stabilised. As well as there being was no spinal fluid leaking. But unfortunately the damage to the spinal cord left him paralysed from the waist down with the very unlikely possibility that he will ever walk again. He is in the Intensive care unit as of now, he will be moved to an intermediate floor room until healed from surgery and then live in a rehab centre for 3-5 months. My dad will be away from home for about 6 months relearning how to live. In that time we will be trying to carry on with are normal lives, frequently visiting him, and preparing for our new life. The driver that hit my dad has 3 previous DUI's and was driving on a suspended license. I want to spread awareness and I would never wish this experience on anyone else. We are so positive that he will live a long quality life. All positive thoughts and prayers are needed and appreciated. If you don't have the means to donate please share this link, we are so grateful for anything.
