Who doesn't love an inspirational success story?
Hi, my name is Bex Hankin and I'd like to ask for a minute of your time to find out about a truly inspirational guy I've had the pleasure of knowing over the last 10 years.
Michael Murphy was born with a rare condition called Dejerine-Sottas, an inherited neurological condition that gradually affects the individuals ability to move. At a young age he was recommended to try out horse riding for therapeutic reasons- and after 20 years, he is now ranked no. 1 in the world for grade 1 Para Dressage. He earned his place at the Tokyo paralymics, where he smashed out 4th place in the Team Test and he has just returned from the World Championships where he returned with not one, but TWO bronze medals!!
There is no doubt Mike has the potential to win a life changing medal at the Paris 2024 paralympics. However, his opportunity to do this is currently limited through no fault of his own, due to a lack of sufficient funding.
This is why on September 3rd 2022 I took a leap of faith and jumped out of a plane, in an attempt to be even slightly as brave as Mike has been throughout his life. It has not been an easy ride for Mike, learning to live with his health disability and the sudden passing of his brother and my close friend James, and I would love to be able to take some of the stress away. If you could spare anything, no matter how small, to contribute to his journey, both he and I would be so grateful.
Please do let me know if you wish for further details on any of this. For context, to maintain and take 2 horses to 2 competitions over a year costs at a minimum £60k!
