Michael Piña’s Memorial

Thank you for taking the time to click on the link. If you’re here on this GoFundme you’re family or someone who knew my brother Mike Piña. Even if it was a brief interaction you felt this infectious joy and were drawn to him.

Mikey had the purest and most genuine heart. When you spoke to him you felt his genuine interest and care about your day or your life story. He had this gift of not only being the most caring person on earth but being able to make you truly feel it. Mikey was our family’s light. Even through his rough patches and addiction he always remained full of this gift.

He had turned a corner this past year and was at the brightest and happiest he had ever been. He had been clean just 2 weeks shy of his 1 year mark.

He was doing so well, living on his own working with/for organizations to help troubled youth and other individuals as a peer advocate and mentor. He was one of his probation departments success stories. He not only had the passion to help others get out of the street life but he also had his gift that really impacted those he helped. He had a detailed 10 year plan written down in a journal in his car and was actively enrolled in college courses and trying to take the necessary steps to execute his plan. He was motivated, hopeful and driven.

Which is why his death comes as such a gutting shock. We do not know the full details of his death. We hope to get answers within the coming days once the investigation concludes.

However, in the mean time we are asking for assistance. We would love to give him a proper burial and memorial. And if anything is left over we’d love to give it to his boys. Mike loved his boys Mikey & Marciano.

We have felt the love and support across the country and we want to thank you all for giving us such comforting sentiments and love. It was not a surprise our brother was a favorite by many. And loved by all.
