A FUND TO SUPPORT THE COST OF STAGE III CANCER TREATMENT AND RECOVERY
Friends - As most of you know, I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in December of 2021. A year-long battle to restore my health followed. A tumor was surgically removed, two more were later discovered and treated though chemotherapy, a process that lasted for four months and has taken almost 6 months to partially recover from.
The fight however continues. Close observation revealed on May 28th that the cancer had advanced aggressively to Stage III and metastasized to my brain, the base of my lungs and lymph nodes, my kidneys, liver, and spleen, where 10 small tumors have been discovered.
I’m fortunate to have found exceptional care at NYU Langone led by David Wise, hematologist/oncologist Mohammad Maher Abdul Hay, and neurosurgeon Douglas Kondziolka. Their treatment plan, urgently recommended, will consist of six more months of advanced chemotherapy, radiation, along with three stem cell transplants. Surgery is again off the table. Treatment has already begun, which hasn’t given me much time to get my affairs in order. 
David has made it very clear that I won’t be able to work, which puts me at a serious disadvantage. The pandemic wiped out my savings and significantly limited the amount of credit I have left. After taking in some good advice and a lot of hand-wringing, I’ve decided to launch this campaign to help absorb the cost of medical expenses not covered by my insurance as well as operating expenses like rent, utilities, food, and transportation to and from Perlmutter Cancer Center, where I’ll be treated.
Asking for help isn’t easy for me, but the circumstances are extraordinary. In total, I’m seeking $30,000 in financial support. It’s a lot to ask, I know, but I’ll be out of work for at minimum 10 months and may not qualify for disability. Still, if you can swing it, you’d be investing in more than just this fund but a future starred by enlightened creative contributions and public service, my passion and mission.

ABOUT ME
I’m the co-founder of HRM & Company, a small New York based clothing company led by my partner Hector R. I’m also a composer of contemporary classical music. I studied composition with Carnegie Mellon University’s Nancy Galbraith as well as sound and performance at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I’ve also completed coursework in political science at Columbia University in New York. Since 2004 I’ve developed my own unique approach to graphic notation, creating large-scale folk-inspired musical landscapes driven by aleatoric elements that combine sound performance with visual art.
In 2019 I ran the TCS New York City Marathon benefiting Sandy Hook Promise and have frequently volunteered for Cathedral Community Cares, part the social justice ministry at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, where I’m a member of the Congregation of Saint Saviour.
I was born in Virginia, raised in Pittsburgh, and now live in Jersey City with my partner Hector and our two dogs Java and Coco.
My amazing sister, Kate, her husband Daniel, and their little one Penny, pictured below, live outside of Charleston, South Carolina.
