Michael Stein Community Memorial
On March 20, 2021, family, friends, and the greater Watchung, NJ community lost Michael Logan Stein, aged 21. Michael, a lifelong resident of Watchung, had been a student in the gifted program since his days at Bayberry Elementary School. His natural intelligence and logical reasoning skills were apparent from an early age, and rarely failed to impress in and out of the classroom. Apart from his education, Michael’s true gift was developing and maintaining strong relationships with many people, all of whom he cared about. His smile could put anyone at ease, and his presence could energize an entire room. Michael loved conversation, and actively sought situations where he could strengthen the bonds and relationships he had with family and friends.
To honor his memory, a coalition of Michael’s friends and family aim to create two memorials in Watchung which will include a QR scan telling this very story aimed at inspiring love and friendships amidst an unimaginable tragedy A large table will be constructed at the Watchung Lake, followed by a bench which will overlook Best Lake. These two memorials will allow not only Michael’s memory to live on, but do so in a way that will benefit the entire community. The table and bench allow anyone to sit and converse with loved ones; one of Michael’s favorite things to do. They provide new and unique locations to reflect in scenic, peaceful areas, as well as provide a meaningful reminder to love and appreciate those around you.
