Michael Thompson 70K Run For LooseHeadz
Donation protected
Hey guys, on 15th August 2020,I will be running 175 laps of a running track, in a single day, the equivalent of 70 kilometres. In doing so, I hope to raise money for the foundation LooseHeadz. LooseHeadz is a foundation set up to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly in the sport of rugby.
I have lived the last decade of my life, up until 22nd February 2020, suffering from a gambling addiction which was destroying my mental health and had me on the verge of taking my own life on multiple occasions. 15th August 2020 will be my 175th day gamble free, running one lap for every day I haven’t been gambling.
My reason for choosing LooseHeadz is that the stigma around mental health is still there in rugby. I have experienced first hand jokes made about my problems from team mates and been told the way to get over my gambling problem was to ‘man up’. LooseHeadz look to tackle this stigma and educate people about the seriousness of mental health problems. Team mates should look to lift each other up, not drag each other down.
