Monday July 27th Mike went to work like any other Monday. Michelle got a phone call around 9:30 from his boss saying he was being rushed to the St. Cloud ER. Their first thought was heart-attack and he was showing many signs of this. They did some tests and ruled no heart-attack. They decided to do an MRI which brought the scariest news we were not prepared for: Aortic Dissection - A tear in the inner layer of the large blood vessel branching off the heart (aorta).

This was very very serious, he was immediately air lifted to the U of M for emergency surgery. Mike went under 10.5 hours of surgery where 5 different surgeons repaired his aorta. Mike was stable the entire surgery. Once they were done, the surgeons decided to keep him in a medically induced coma as they found he has some lung disease. Mike was woken up around 11:30AM Tuesday morning, he was on oxygen for a few days to follow. He remained in the ICU until Friday night when he was then moved to a cardiac unit.

Mike under went several test, MRI’s CT scans etc and will be out of work until at least December. Mike is very hardworking and would do anything to take care of his family and friends. Michelle is unable to work during this time as she needs to be home with Mike for proper care and recovery as he is still very weak. He has been a constant support for the people he cares about and he and his family would endlessly appreciate the same compassion to be given back to him in this time of need.
