Michael White's Road to Recovery

2019 has brought with it some the best and worst times in my life, a house fire around 4:00am 10/30/19 left me trapped in a second floor bedroom, waking up in absolute panic to a house full of smoke and already half in flames, with in 15 - 20 seconds, I made it to the bedroom door, realized there were flames in the second floor, and immediately turned toward my window, thankfully was unlocked, I kicked the screen out I went feet first holding onto the back of the couch to attempt in lowering myself some, I believe I missed the couch, falling directly to the concrete, bare foot about 12 feet. Landing in such a way, mostly on my heels, I fractured my left tibia at the ankle, I fractured my left calcaneus (heel bone), and I suffered a burst fracture in my L1 vertebrae. I also suffered severe smoke inhalation. I have avoided surgery after three days of bed rest and observation at Moses cone in Greensboro, I was released. The extent of my injuries will mean I need 4-6 months if not more of follow up appointments, including Orthopedic for both feet, Neurologist for my spine injury, physical therapist, and possibly a psychiatrist. I'm unable to work in my profession, I'm unable to drive, I'm not resting for more than a few hours at a time with waking up and freaking out for a second. I have no way to keep an income currently, I'm without medical insurance, and I've literally been working my butt for 10 years now because I hate asking for help, now everything I've worked for is gone, and I have no choice but to reach out for help.
