Michaela & Beckett Wasson Bone Marrow Transplant

Donation protected
Michaela is a single mom trying to care for Baby Beckett with a rare disease. We are raising funds to assist her on her long journey for good health for Beckett. She will be at his bedside and unable to work during this time, not to mention the medical bills that they will be incurring.

This is important to us and the community because she works part-time at Kelly's Kitchen and serves so many of us. We would like to return the favor and love that she has shown so many. Money raised by your generous gift will go towards medical bills and living expenses that she has while staying down there.

This is their story in Michaela's words:

"As many of you know, Beckett has had a rough start to life. At 3 days old he was referred for some blood work due to bruising from birth that was not healing. After several blood tests, a 4 day stay at Nationwide Children's Hospital, and a couple of weeks of more blood and genetics testing, it was found that Beckett was born with a rare autoimmune disease called Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome. One of the symptoms of this is low platelet numbers. The normal range for platelets is between 200 and 300 thousand. His were averaging about 20 thousand. Platelets are what cause clotting and stops unwanted bleeding. By 4 months old he had had 3 hospital stays, 17 platelet infusions, and multiple blood checks every week. They have begun a new weekly injection that is currently keeping his platelet count in the 50 thousand range.

The only long-term cure for Wiskott's is a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). Currently, Beckett has 3 matching bone marrow donors on hold. He is scheduled to begin pre-bone marrow transplant screenings on January 9th and scheduled to start chemotherapy on January 31, 2023. He will receive his first donor bone marrow on February 9, 2023. All of these listed procedures will be at Cincinnati Children's Hospital - away from her hometown. Beckett will be in isolation in the hospital for 4-6 weeks, after which he will continue isolation in the Ronald McDonald House for a minimum of 90 days. During this time my family and I will be staying in Cincinnati with him."
