Michaela's FFS Fund

My name is Michaela Joffe, and I am a 36-year old trans woman. Like many other trans people, I suffer from pretty crippling dysphoria. I've been on HRT for 3 years now, and while I've gone through some validating changes that were beyond my wildest hopes, there are some parts of the process that I can't change through that alone.

I have been researching Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) for about a year now. After much research, I decided on Dr. Rossi at T-Change in Buenos Ares, Argentina. This was based on the price, the results I have seen in friends and others who have seen Dr. Rossi, and the timing available. Even including the price of transportation and lodging while I am there, the price will be significantly cheaper than anything I found in the States, and still offer more options to boot.

The total cost for everything, including the surgery, flight, apartment rental, and food, will be just shy of $20,000. This is a lot to ask for, I know, and I do not presume to cover everything through crowdfunding alone. I already have $4,000 prepared, and I will be exploring other avenues for funding as well. But for a single trans preschool teacher and artist living in an extremely expensive city, my funds and savings are limited. Every bit I make from this campaign is a big help. If I can make my initial goal, I will continue crowdfunding.

Once I have the funding, I will be able to finalize the date and fly out to Buenos Ares for the surgery. In an ideal situation, I would be able to fly down in March, but if not there are other months available throughout the year. My plan right now, based on the advice of my doctor, is to stay three weeks to recover. I'm hoping to share my experience to help dispel some of the myths around transitioning like this and to show the process of recovery. Even though I have to ask for help to do this, I know that it is an opportunity a lot of my community both longs for and has limited access to. I don't presume that my story is going to change anyone's life other than my own, but I know I spent far, far too long in my life thinking it would never be possible for me to see myself in a mirror.
