Michaels wish for dying partner

Donation protected
Dear all KONE employees,

My name is Gary Robson and I work in KSV at KONE SSB Sydney with Michael Gray. Unfortunately, late October 2016; Michael’s partner Brenda Crosher was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND).

Motor neurone disease (MND) is the name given to a group of diseases in which the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us to move, speak, breathe and swallow undergo degeneration and die.

It is beyond words to describe the devastating impact and sadness this condition has to family & friends. Something that I have already personally had the experience to witness. Which is why I am reaching out to you all in a compassionate plea to support one of our colleagues in a time need.

Since Brenda’s diagnosis, she was medically forced to cease work from November. Within 6 months unfortunately she is now currently in Calvary Hospital in Kogarah.

A credit to an extremely strong individual as known by many of his KONE colleagues. Michael as a sole provider, continues working full time and maintaining a household for Brenda’s young adult children. All this whilst spending every spare moment to be the supportive partner to Brenda.

It is unfortunate that this debilitating disease not only has a financial toll; with Hospital bills etc. It is the emotional impact and rapid degeneration which is heartbreaking. Tragically, after just 7 months from being diagnosed, Brenda and Michaels Prognosis for the future is sadly just 1-2 months.

Originating from South Africa, Michael and Brenda have spent the last 13 years together building a life here in Australia. As many Sydney siders are familiar with, it is a day to day challenge: managing rent, providing a safe environment for your children, providing an education, running vehicles and all the other incidentals that come with home life. Brenda & Michael continue to do this always with a smile on their faces, even when the struggle provides little reason for a smile.

Why and how we can help?

Brenda’s brother and sister are in Australia and a few others are desperately, trying to make their way to be by her side to help. After discussions with Michael, he explained that Rodney & Jenny (Brenda’s Parent’s) were not in a financial position along with other members to be able to make the trip to Sydney to bid farewell to their daughter. Unfortunately, Michael & Brenda with the current hospital bills & home life challenges, are not in a position to bring them over either.

In times of desperation and need I have spoken with Michael on the importance of memories and time and as such Michael has extended his borrowing capacity & credit cards to accommodate the family to say goodbye.

There are many families out there who are in trouble and can’t get help. But I think like all of us that come to be close to a hardship we can’t in our conscience or friendship. Simply sit back without trying to help.

Consider this: Can I go without that carton beer? night out? Or new clothing?
