Help Bring Micheal Makumbi Home
This Easter weekend, our world shifted. We lost someone irreplaceable Micheal Makumbi, just 22 years old, whose life was full of promise, love, and light.
Micheal came to Canada from Uganda to chase his dreams. As an international student at the University of Manitoba and a proud athlete with Legacy Preparatory Basketball Academy, he gave everything he had on the court, in class, and in every connection he made. But Micheal was so much more than a student or a teammate. He was joy. He was laughter. He was the kind of friend who made you feel like family. With a heart that never ran out of room for others, and a smile that could lift you out of the darkest moments, he changed lives in ways he never fully realized. His passing sudden, unexpected, and far too soon has left a deep and painful void in all of us who loved him. Now, our hearts are focused on one thing: bringing Micheal home to Uganda.
Home, where his story began. Home, where his family — who raised him, loved him, and sent him here with hope — is waiting to lay him to rest. This journey comes with overwhelming costs — flights, funeral arrangements in both Canada and Uganda, and support for his grieving family. We are asking for your help — not just to raise money, but to surround Micheal with the same love and support he gave so freely.
This GoFundMe is about honouring a life that deserved so much more time. It's about standing in solidarity with his loved ones — across oceans — and reminding them that Micheal’s impact reached far and wide. Every donation matters. Every share helps. Every prayer carries us one step closer to home. Let’s come together, in the spirit Micheal always lived by — with love, community, and open arms. Thank you for helping us bring him home. #ForMichael who loved every one. Let’s show how much we loved him back ❤️
