Michele's Bday Fundraiser - Astoria Cat Rescue

Greetings friends and family! It's time for my annual birthday fundraiser, and this year I've decided to raise much needed funds for a small, volunteer organization that I have donated to for a number of years - Astoria Cat Rescue. They work so hard to help cats and kittens live their best lives, often against very steep odds. They currently:

- Feed 150+ feral cats in 15 colonies

- Perform TNR on street cats in order to reduce the stray cat population (TNR stands for trap, neuter, release)

- Provide essential medical care to these homeless cats as needed

- Take in "friendlies" to adopt out (friendlies are street cats that can live in homes with people - they likely were not born in the streets but got lost or abandoned - actual feral cats who grew up in the streets are generally not able to live with humans)

- Accept unwanted (surrendered) cats and kittens

- Care for their rescued cats housed within Astoria Cat Rescue

- Recruit and and coordinate foster volunteers to house additional cats

- Carry out thorough screenings of potential adopters for safe placements

- Provide medical care for their rescued cats - this includes medical care for illness or injury as well as spaying, neutering, and microchipping cats in preparation for adoption
