Michelle Hall Care gofundme

As many of you may know, Michelle has battled disability for over 24 years since her horrific car accident and now her world has been turned completely upside down!! This last Christmas Eve she started bleeding internally and was transferred down to MUSC hospital in Charleston.  On Christmas Day her condition significantly worsened and she slipped into a coma. Over the following two weeks she unfortunately suffered catastrophic brain damage while in the coma, with her speech, memory and mobility all being massively compromised.

As a happy camper on Christmas Eve in the ER in Aiken, SC

Michelle spent nearly 9 weeks at MUSC in Charleston and since then she has been in and out of hospital constantly with complications due to continued seizures and infections.

Michelle is in desperate need of Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy and the coming 6 to 12 months will obviously be crucial to her being able to maximise her potential for improvement!! She has finally now been able to stay out of hospital for nearly 6 weeks and already her at home care is being cut back. Proper "rehab" facilities won't take her as she hasn't reached the strength and "standard" they require and yet with her at home treatments now being scaled back, the chances of her reaching the required level seems even harder for her to try to attain. It all feels somewhat backward as she needs help to get better, but the help is being reduced and of course insurance or money seems to be the real driving force stopping her getting the support she needs.

Ideally I would still like to try and get Michelle to either the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, the Spaulding Rehab Hospital in Boston or the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, but even if I can eventually get her accepted, the costs are likely to run into the tens of thousands!! Otherwise I am left at looking to try and get her home rehab increased with extra Private Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy and the cost of this is also somewhat daunting. She currently gets three Physical Therapy sessions per week and two Speech Therapy sessions and no Occupational Therapy sessions, for a total of five visits per week.  I have been advised that she should / needs to be getting a minimum of fifteen or more visits per week and something nearer this is our goal.

Having spent all of this year by her side and then this terrible Covid-19 virus, I have not been able to work and like most of the country our financial situation is becoming dire!! While I hate to ask for help, I feel I have no option for Michelle's sake!!

Funds raised will go towards care and increased therapy for Michelle, along with trying to make the home more wheelchair and disabled friendly.  Obviously any support with this would be massively appreciated!!!!
