Mickey has been a firefighter since 2008, paramedic since 2009, and RN since 2019. He holds a bachelors degree in Emergency Management, a bachelors of science in Nursing, and is currently pursuing his masters in nurse administration with a completion date of December 2021. He has worked at numerous fire departments in the Dallas area, and currently with Richland Hills for the past 2 years. He is also a nurse in the ER and ICU on his days off from the fire department at Baylor Centennial in Frisco. He and his wife, Taylor, have been married for 10 years and have 3 boys together, Walker-8, Cannon-6, and Easton-2.
On the night of June 5th, his wife was woken up by Mickey having a grand mal seizure, something that has never happened before. The seizure lasted over 6 minutes. He was transported via Allen FD to Texas Health Allen where a CT scan revealed a brain tumor. He was then transported via careflight to Baylor Dallas where they were better equipped to handle a diagnosis of this sort. Baylor Dallas performed an MRI which showed he had a brain tumor the size of a small strawberry and would need to be removed surgically and sent off for pathology testing.
Initial pathology reports came back saying he has a level 2 astrocytoma, but some markers are indicating that it is closer to a level 3. He will have his sutures removed on 6/21 where he will receive the full pathology/genetic testing report. His fight is nowhere near over as he will be going through radiation for the foreseeable future but won’t know exactly how long until his oncology appointment on 6/24. Mickey knows that our Lord is the great healer and believes in the power of prayer. We are thankful for anyone who can pray with us or for us during this difficult time.
