Mickey Shields 7's Tournament

Donation protected
Following on from last year's successful event, on the 30th March 2024 (Easter Saturday), Clogher Eire Ogs are delighted to host the second ‘Mickey Shields 7’s Tournament’ in conjunction with Niamh Louise Foundation, with 12 teams from 3 different counties competing to win the event.

Last year’s event was a great success in raising awareness for the Niamh Louise Foundation. Together we raised an incredible amount for the charity which was greatly appreciated and vital to sustain the amazing work they do, as the organisation no longer receives government funding. This is why any fundraising efforts are massive in helping The Niamh Louise Foundation to carry out their work. On a personal note, they have been indispensable in the healing process for our family. We hope to raise as much funds as possible through this page and on the day of the tournament so that they can continue their essential work throughout the country. We hope you can support us in any way possible. All help is appreciated, as together we are stronger.

The Niamh Louise Foundation (www.niamhlouisefoundation,com) are a local charity who provide awareness and support services for those who have been bereaved by, or affected by suicide or self-harm. They provide a safe environment at their base at 32 Coalisland Road, Dungannon, where anyone can drop in to chat and receive support and guidance.

Remembering the inspiration behind this event, Mickey Shields can only be described as a person who Breathed, Ate and Slept everything to do with Clogher GFC. The terrible loss of Daddy sent shock waves not only throughout our Club but all across the County. Daddy was a beacon of all that is good about the GAA. Mickey was there for everyone, but his love for the Club knew no bounds. He was always there when you needed someone, he was reliable, faithful and he was an inspirational volunteer, he loved his club. He would tend to the needs of the club whenever asked upon. Throughout our playing years, whether school, county or club, Daddy was our number one fan and critic. He was the person you wanted to play well for, no one was prouder of our successes than daddy. Football was daddy’s dreamland.

In June 2022, we were rocked by dad’s death by suicide. The mixed emotions in the aftermath of his passing circulated through everyone that knew him. Nearly 20 months on, we as a family are working on coming to terms with the sudden passing of what was truly the rock of our family. Each day has its own challenges, but we are getting stronger, especially through the help of the Clogher club and the Niamh Louise Foundation who will be the main beneficiary of this tournament.
