Midas's vet care fundraiser!

Thank you so much to all our family and friends who have so kindly offered to help support some of the costs of Midas' vet care. We've set up this GoFundMe as a way to donate and share with people who have asked how they can contribute.

We were hit with a pretty serious veterinary emergency this week when Midas was vomiting, had diarrhea and lost a significant amount of blood in a very short space of time. Our amazing vets stabilized him over 24 hours and they suspect it was an episode of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE) combined with really high PCV levels when they tested his blood. A lot of these cases are due to randomly ingesting some kind of toxin and most of the time it's sadly never really clear what the definitive cause is. We also know from other sighthound owners it's not uncommon for these houndies to be affected by HGE.

Unfortunately, the many meds, IVs, X-ray and blood tests needed to investigate and get him better are costly and likely wouldn't even be covered by insurance due to his pre-existing GI issues.

Thankfully, we have an emergency fund so we can cover the costs of his treatment but it is a significant amount of money so we're very grateful to everyone who has offered to help us cover some of the costs.

We're so grateful to our amazing vets at Lawrence Park Animal Hospital who treat Midas like he is one of their own pets. He has been with them ever since we adopted him and they are a huge part of his success story as a rescue hound who made it all the way from the meat markets of China to Toronto. We're also so grateful to our greyhound community who have been so supportive in sharing their experiences and support with us and virtually held our hands over the past few stressful days.

We are so happy our Midas Man is home and on the mend after such a scary time. We will keep you updated on his progress over the coming weeks!
