Middle School Bathroom Makeover

My name is Danielle Boyst and I am an 8th grade Social Studies Teacher at Wiley Magnet Middle School. I am looking to raise funds to update our student bathrooms.
We are a Title I school with 84% of our student population on free and reduced lunch. Not only do we aim to provide the best opportunities for academic success but also create a positive environment that inspires learning. Usually, when people set foot in a school bathroom, words like “positive” or “inspiring” don’t really come to mind. Our goal is to repaint the bathrooms with inspiring messages and artwork. This is an idea that we have come up with based on our needs to promote a positive learning environment and the success that we have seen in other schools that have taken on this same project.
Our project would be to sand down the original surface of the bathroom stalls and paint the stalls black to create a “canvas” for drawings and messages (messages like “You are beautiful” or “Do the right thing…even when no one is looking”).
Middle school is a difficult time for every student. Students are struggling with academics and their own self-esteem. How amazing would it be on a rough day to walk in to school and to see on the wall a quote that lifts you up?
Because we are a Title I school with 84% of our student population on free and reduced lunch, we simply don’t have the funds to make this project come to life. Your donations can help us by providing the supplies that we would need to complete this project – sandpaper, a couple cans of paint, painters tape, paint brushes, paint pens, stencils, etc.
