Midna's fight against Stomatitis

Hi, I’m Chelan (Kaylin) I’m an animal lover through and through, I help where I can and rescue when life makes it possible. I don’t quite know where to start so we’ll start from the beginning.

This is Midna’s story. I met this sweet girl on March 7th 2022. She was just under two years old and she was in the back corner of a kennel away from the busy world. When she was saved from the streets of Dallas she was malnourished, pregnant and struggling with a necrotic disease that lead to half of her tail being removed. We took her in, introduced her to her new brother, Ollivander and loved her every second she would let us.

At first she was so shy and after everything she had been through, I don’t blame her! After about a year she started sleeping at my feet, lounging in the living room and even playing with Ollie. She started to truly become “our girl”. I loved her from the start, but my love for her grew over time as her personality came out. Though, if it were a happy ending I wouldn’t need your help.

About three months ago Middy was playing with her absolute favorite toy, a fuzzy worm on a wand, and suddenly the air was filled with cries for help. We knew something was wrong and called the vet. She was diagnosed with Stomatitis, a chronic disease that affects the soft tissue in the mouth caused by plaque build up, food allergies, viruses and many more conditions. This affects around 4% of cats, and can also occur in dogs and humans! The painful disease causes lesions on the gums and throat and can be fatal if left untreated.

After multiple rounds of steroids and oral medications, the vet made the decision that it was time for the only true cure which is a full-mouth tooth extraction.

So here we are. One sick kitty, one desperate Meowther and all of you who have made it this far into her story. As you can imagine dental work is expensive. All funds are going to her surgery. Post-op care, medicine and food will fully be provided by me.
